Christmas Door Hanging Part 1

Front Panel

Since I got my sewing machine, I've been keeping an eye out for, well, kits to try to teach myself how to use the thing. I found a door hanging kit at Joanne's (there's one for every month-I picked December thinking I might be able to gift it to someone for Christmas).

The fabric came mostly pre-cut. I just had to cut strips and make sure everything was the right size.

The next step was to sew the red border around the black background. I also cut out the plaid border, which is laid out with the background and border, which have been sewn together.

I then sewed the plaid border to the red border, which completed the front panel.

Coming Soon-Part 2: Appliques

Pumpkin Pie Dip

Since Thanksgiving is fast approaching and we'll be seeing a lot of family over the next week or so, I wanted to find a simple holiday snack that I can take along with me on my travels. So a quick search of the internet turned up a recipe for pumpkin pie dip (click the title of this post to see the original).

It was easy to make, and it was a hit with the husband's family when we went to help his brother move yesterday. It's good with ginger snaps, vanilla wafers, graham crackers, animal crackers, fruit slices, and I hear it makes a good spread for breads containing nuts.

Despite Thanksgiving being less than a week away, I couldn't find Pumpkin Pie spice. But, if you have nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, and allspice, you've got it covered:) We made a double batch, and it yielded about 7 cups.

We're planning on sending some to both our families for Thanksgiving as an appetizer:) Enjoy!!

Scalloped Hotpads

In keeping with making things to use in the kitchen, here's a pattern I stumbled on for pot holders/hot pads.

Enjoy:)
