I was poking around on Craftzine.com, which has some really neat ideas and patterns for a variety of different projects. It's worth checking out: Craftzine.com Blog

Short Break
I'm traveling across the state to visit with family this three-day weekend, so I won't be doing much updating. I did want to leave something for the folks who have little ones to entertain over the long weekend, though.
Free Kid Crafts
I hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend, whether you're traveling or staying at home. Wherever you go, please take a moment to remember the men and women who are fighting or have fought for our freedom and safety, whether you agree with the war or not.

New Project!
I went to Michael's on Tuesday to see if they had their 99 cent yarn selection out yet, but they didn't. However, I did get some yarn for another baby blanket (which I've decided to keep for one of my nephews or give away to the next person I know that has a baby).
The pattern is here.
I started working on the first square, and this particular yarn (baby coordinates by Bernat) is a little hinky...The way it was weaved together causes the hook to catch when I don't want it to, but it is really soft and, once you get a couple of rows going, looks really nice.
Check back later for project updates!
P.S. Check out the Crochet Spot's latest post. Apparently there is a surgeon using small crochet hooks for surgery! The link is on the left hand side of your screen.

Crocheted Baby Blanket
My brother in law and his wife recently had their first little one, and I used this pattern from Bernat to make them a baby blanket. It was fairly easy and the squares went together as you went along. I took my time on it, but finished it in about a month. The border around the edge took maybe two sittings.
Here's the finished product:
It looks very delicate, but I've been told by my sister in law that they've used it and that it feels pretty sturdy to them. I was a little wary because there's a tie off on every square, but it's holding together very well :)
Here's the finished product:
Crocheted Bath Puffs
I saw these for the first time at a craft fair I went to recently with my family. I thought it was a neat idea, so I made one of my own.
I used black-and-white medium-weight acrylic yarn that I had laying around the Apartment. With a size K hook, the puff turned out to be about the same size as the nylon puff I bought for 1$ at the grocery store. It was really easy to do and I finished it in two sittings.

It looks really good! So, this morning, I decided to try it out in the shower.
The Verdict:
It was effective. It got a little heavy once it was wet, and it lathered about as well as a traditional washcloth, but it worked. I wonder if it might be one of those things that needs to be broken in. It seems like it would lather better if it was not so densely put together. It also occurred to me that it would be a really good water toy (the kind you toss in a bucket, then throw at your nearest enemy) if I stopped at the second round (so it was smaller). So maybe that's what I'll do. Turn my bath puff into water toys for the little cousins at the next family get-together.
